Louis Gray does a nice investigation of new site...
Amplify friend @louisgray does a great job of showing what a *cough* ripoff *cough* YouHav.com is of LinkedIn. I would be very afraid to sign up for this network given their ethics. First strike was spamming potential users, strike two is the obvious disregard for other organizations hard work and branding. In this case I think the old adage about imitation being the best form of flattery clearly...

For Tinkerers - Windows 7 will pull slideshow...
This is one of those less well known issues that someone is likely to appreciate so I had to share. So to take this up a notch - one could provide a feed for these themes and allow custom images to be displayed perhaps with motivational messages for your workers? Or you could go 1984 on them as well with some classy Black and Whites that encourage productivity? Ok maybe not.Amplify’d from...

I think this is a great idea our local patch is seeking unsung heroes in the community. Who would you choose and why? I have several people that definitely made a difference in my life in 2010 but I struggle to come up with one person above the others.Amplify’d from sanramon.patch.comWho Made the Biggest Difference in Your Life in 2010?San Ramon Patch wants to tell the story of that special...

An idea to improve amplify and hedge the firehose...
I have an #feature suggestion - filtered feed tab. You guys added a “Favorite Sources” filter so the tech is there. I think you can kick things up a notch by having a custom tab that lets the user manage the content. Let’s say you want to filter out certain “busy” users, you can filter out their handle. Or say you want to avoid politics or religion, you can filter out...

Need your help, should my family get a Kinect or...
We own an Xbox 360 and are debating getting a brand new Wii or just getting a Kinect for our Xbox. Keep in mind my family includes a 5 year old boy and we are looking for family friendly entertainment that a 5 year old can participate in. I am not interested in sports and family oriented gaming at this point. That was why originally I was planning to get a Wii but now I am thinking Kinect might be...

As many of you know I am a WordPress Zealot so whenever I hear about a new theme or framework I am anxious to check it out. I just replaced my old UPS and that got rid of the last ambient fan noise in my office. It is so darn quiet in here all I can hear is the actual hard disk reads and writes. The ambient fan “white noise” is completely gone. It’s so strange. I am used to the hum of computer and related device fans I guess :) http://bit.ly/fLRqwv

Pretty excited to be interviewing Yau-Man tonight. We’ll be discussing the state of science in schools, some healthy skepticism and I will also be asking him some questions about his experience on the TV Series Survivor as well. What businesspeople (and leaders) need to know...
I love the life lessons that you can glean from blogs that don’t necessarily have anything to do with the original intention of the post. After reading Jim’s latest post today I quickly concluded “what great advice for any leader”. I think Jim really described characteristics of a good leader. Question of the day - Do you think "The Social...
After reading the latest about Mark Zuckerberg joining the Giving Pledge effort I am actually wondering about how the Movie “The Social Network” had influenced my opinion. I am one of those people that believes strongly that if you get “that rich” it’s really silly (I’d use different words depending on the company) to not try to help others. So to the question,...

I have only seen 1 auto DM ever that I actually liked, and considering the volumes of people who send auto DM’s that’s not a great track record. Would you use such a tool here on #amplify? You can run out of time to play but you never stop...
Computer gaming played a prominent role in my tinkering in the early/mid 1990’s before I joined the IT field. I don’t even have any games installed on my PC now but when I see the latest gear and games I still feel a quick rush. It’s a #gamer thing. Allow me to introduce you to the GTX 570, something I will point at like a kid walking by the toy store window but will in all...

Why context is important with shortened URLs....
My big take away from this article is that context is very important with shortened urls. Since you don’t know what the actual destination content is you can give the shared link a quick sniff test. By evaluating context you can greatly reduce the risk of being duped into accessing a malicious URL. Here are some suggestions: 1. Is the behavior of the user sharing the link normal? (Did...

Microsoft takes leadership role in Cyber Security....
This is a partial clip of a article that makes some great points about Microsoft’s leadership in Cyber Security. This is really interesting and might be very useful if you or someone you know has been “stalked” on Facebook. I have seen comments about “creeps” on Facebook more than once.
